Olivia & Mark Tyne Bridge Shoot

This year still hasn’t stopped me planning photoshoots with couples. In fact lockdown actually helped with one of them. Olivia and Mark were due to get married in August, until COVID-19 came along and the whole wedding industry was put on hold. We therefore decided to do a photoshoot to make up for their wedding being postponed. Inspired by the Danny Boyle film ’28 Days Later’ (a film ironically about an infection that brings the country to a standstill), I’ve wanted to do a photoshoot with a couple in the middle of an empty Tyne Bridge for a while. Unfortunately there are usually over 70,000 vehicles cross over the bridge each day and the only time it’s closed is for the annual Great North Run. However during lockdown the traffic across the UK was a lot quieter, with schools closed and everyone still working from home. Late night bars and clubs were also still closed, meaning less traffic on a night time.

Olivia & Mark we’re due to get married at the Baltic in August but had to postpone due to Corona Virus. The Baltic is only a stones throw from the Tyne Bridge, so I figured these guys would be perfect for this photo shoot. After weeks of planning and waiting for the right weather conditions, we finally met up at 4am on a deserted Tyne Bridge. The original shot I had in mind was a photo of them running down the middle of the road, with the bridge in the background. We captured that shot within the first 10 minutes of being there. We then headed up to the middle of the bridge and after a short while the sun finally came up and it was stunning! It flooded the bridge with golden hour light and gave the photos a completely different look and feel. I was in my element!

We wrapped up the shoot and then headed down to the Ouseburn to some cool graffiti by ‘Mul Draws’, that I’d spotted a week earlier. It read ‘Young Hearts Run Free’. I think this bit of artwork sums up Olivia and Mark perfectly because only a few months later, despite everything going on, they decided to just go for it and get married at The Baltic, in front of only a handful of their closest friends and family. Love definitely isn’t cancelled and Olivia and Mark are proof of that!!!
